Alberta and Tru Barlow with Vanatter Kids

My guess is that this is August 1971. I was in a wedding that month and I remember I was getting my hair done in a shop by the Von's market the day that they arrived and I was antsy to get home to see them. I loved those brow hip hugger "cords" I was wearing. I loved brown back then. I wore it alot! As usual this was a few minutes before they left to drive home. Scott when did you buy your 55 Nomad. I think this was taken the same day as the one of you and Dad and grandpa filing up a water jug for them to take with them. Your car was in that photo. I think. but it is almost 2:45 a.m. so I am getting sleepy.

Mom and Dad Grandmas with Kathleen

Okay. Carrie says that in the photo below in the back yard that she remembers Grandma coming back after this 1980 photo. What say you Becky, Scott, and Tracy? I know I have pictures of us in the front room when Sydney was a little older. I know Bruce Miller took it and I didn't meet him until after April 1981 when I went to Arcadia Presbyterian Singles group. So Carrie I think you are right. I think that could be the time you remember. She was sitting in the chair in the front room and we were standing behind her. I am in Kansas so I can't go in and find the slides or proof sheet that I am talking about. It is a cute picture and I am sure Bruce took it. Your grandama just woke up because the train was whistling in the distance. She says she can't remember if that was the last time she came out or not. I remember most everything because of photos. It is 2:00 a.m. here. It is relaxing to have the energy to do photo things into the night. So in conclusion. Yes. I think Grandma did come back one more time. Possibly Christmas 1981.

So how cute is this photo at Mom and Dad's wedding at the Christian Church in Fort Scott? Uncle Charlie took the picture. Repeat. Grandma Bert (Alberta Barlow) Mom, Dad, Grandma Mary (Mary Labrucherie) and Aunt Kathleen (Kathleen Barolow) later Smith.

Dad with the Rototiller

This represents the years where Mom and Dad had that garden in the back section of the yard. It was about 1976 because I remember shooting some photos for my photo classes. I can just taste the green peppers and tomatoes. Also zucchini, zuchini, zuchini. Linda Byerly taught us how to make Zippy Zuchini in the microwave. Yum. Mom would make Gaspacho with the peppers tomatoes and fresh onions. Chilled in the refridgerator. Oh it was good. My favorite was the little yellow summer squash. The short green squash were very tasty too.

Mary Labrucherie

My grandmother Mary Labrucherie came to visit us in Duarte, California in 1980. This is in the back yard. Standing left to right is Gina Vanatter, Dorothy (Lifer) Vanatter, Mary (Griffiths) Labrucherie formerly Lifer. Seated is Tracy Vanatter later Bennett sitting on Dad's lap. Gene Vanatter and Scott Vanatter with baby daughter Sydney Vanatter. Taken with a Mamiya C330 twin lens camera and an 80 mm lens. The next time she came to see us in 1981 she said she was going to stay in Fort Scott, Kansas and people could come see her. Which she did.
