06/28/1997 Vanatter Family

This photo was taken on June 28th, the day of the Beth Family Reunion in 1997. Standing left to right Dorothy, Gene, Sydney, Scott, Gina Vanatter. Seated Thomas Bennett, Carrie Vanatter, Tracy Bennett, Becky Vanatter and James Bennett. Carrie and Sydney both had braces. This was also Thomas' birthday.

Richard Beth was born in Scotland and came to America with his mother Sarah Beth in about 1808? He joined the US Army in 1822. 1833 joined the Dragoons horse soldiers. He worked under Daniel Boone's son Nathan who had raised a regiment of soldiers. He stayed in for most of the years between 1822 to 1850 when he mustered out in Dona Ana Mexico near present day Santa Fe. His wife Caroline (Foster) Beth was with him. He married her in 1838. She was about 15 when they married. She was born n 1822 in Worwickshire England to Nathaniel Foster a bricklayer. They had eight?childen. Caroline was pregnant with her last chid Elizabeth when Richard dies at Fort Scott, Kansas Territory while serving in a Volunteer regiment supporting the Union Cause in the Civil War. He and two of his sons had the Army when President Abraham called for enlistments. William and Charles stayed in the military after Richard died. They stayed with the Sixth Kansas Cavalry. A third son also enlisted later. Caroline received a Civil War pension.

Elizabeth Beth married Charles Lifer on Christmas Day 1879. They had two daughters. Carrie in about 1882 and Pearlie May in 1886? Carrie died young. Pearli Maehad a son Charles Edward Lifer in 1907. He was married to Mary Griffiths and was the father of Charles and Dorothy Lifer. Dorthy Lifer married Gene Vanatter. They had three kids. and four grandkids shown here. Whew !!
